Friday Harbor Fly-In Scrubbed for 2015

Airport Operations Manager, Stuart Hansen, announced the cancellation of the 2015 Fly-In, saying the resources just aren't available this year to produce the kind of entertainment experience people have come to expect.  According to Hansen, "It was a hard decision but one that needed to be made with a smaller airport staff and many volunteers that helped coordinate the Fly Ins of the past not being able to help this year."

The Port of Friday Harbor, which operates Friday Harbor Airport, shares Hansen's regret and hopes to bring the Fly-In back as soon as possible.

A big event requires a large and energetic volunteer base, and San Juan Island, with a small population, has a tougher time staffing events than do many communities on the mainland.  Still, Friday Harbor is a very popular fly-to destination with more than 50,000 air operations annually.

It is hoped that this does not signal the end of the Friday Harbor Fly-In.  Instead, may it be the the start of long-range planning for the next one.

If you have questions, comments, or would like to help with the next Fly-In, contact Stuart Hansen.  His email is stuarth@portfridayharbor.org.
